What You Need To Know To Get By In These Crazy Times

We’ve all heard that it takes a village to raise a child. But, did you ever think about the village it takes just to get through each day as an adult? How many people do you rely on in your life?

We depend on people every single day of our lives, whether we know it or not. Our lives wouldn’t be the same without them and theirs wouldn’t be the same without us…

The mailman • Your family • The crossing guard • Your child’s teacher • The other drivers on the road •Your coworkers •Your yoga teacher •Your best friend • The receptionist at your doctor’s office • Social media friends • Your family doctor

Think of how these people impact you, however insignificant or meaningful.

When you consider the small gestures of kindness and routine courtesy we tend to come across

  • A cashier opening their line for you
  • Your child’s teacher emailing you in praise of a project or test well done
  • The neighbor that signed for your package when you weren’t home
  • The person who smiled at you as you passed them on the street.
  • The man who handed you your wallet when you unknowingly dropped it.

Then add in those people in your life who make your heart sing and think of all of the ways they lift you up. I think you’ll agree…

These days, it takes a village to just get by.

How good does it feel to know that someone believes in you?

It feels amazing and we want to feel that way all the time!

You know by now how much I want you to believe in yourself first and foremost, but sometimes that’s easier said than done.

We often limit ourselves with our negative self-image and get clouded by  less happy experiences.

But … hang on, where is what you need to do when those thoughts creepy crawly into your mind ..

Look at the support system you have. Aren’t you truly blessed?

The value of having people who stand by you is immeasurable. New or old, big or small, the connections in our lives matter.

Now step back and take a look at the darkest moments of your life.

Who’s there? Take a look at the faces around you.

As you remember the hard times, start turning it around by thinking  back to the celebrations and good times, when things were on track.

As you view those memories that are dripping with silver linings… who’s there?

Who comforted you or cheered for you or came running in an emergency or did something to make you smile, just because? You know where your support is.

Where would you be without those people?

Do you realize what that means?

These people that have impacted your life have been a part of your path, and you are a part of theirs. This means that you have the ability to impact their lives, just as they’ve impacted yours.

That’s powerful stuff…

When you let someone pass you on the highway or pick up someone’s keys for them when they drop them or even when you SMILE at your waitress… those small gestures of kindness are fuel for the good vibes machine.

When we lift each other up, we contribute to the betterment of the whole. Love is given and received freely and no one is left to go it alone. You don’t know what a person may be going through; your kindness may turn their frown upside-down!

If we can begin to see how truly connected we all are, how our energies can feed or drain each other in such profound ways, then maybe we can begin to be more conscious of the energetic exchanges we facilitate or allow.

Look at your village.

The people you see or interact with are all part it and you are part of theirs.

I’ve talked about it before, when we avoid the negative, we make more room for the positive. I know that staying in the positive is sometimes difficult.

But .. do you see how this works?

When there is a positive exchange of energy with others, it promote positive feelings. When someone is feeling good, they are more likely to pass it on.

It’s like a chain reaction; it’s what keeps that good vibes machine humming along.

We need each other. Let’s empower each other. Let’s work together to lift each other up.

It doesn’t take much.

It can be as simple as holding a door for someone, help someone with their groceries or pay the toll for the car behind you.

Take care of yourself and the people in your village, because

When you spread kindness like wildflower seeds, you’re always in a place of beauty.

“The unselfish effort to bring cheer to others will be the beginning of a happier life for ourselves.” – Helen Keller

The Small Things have the Biggest Impact: Gratitude, Appreciation and Happiness Realised

lifegrid article photo
Recently my husband and I bought our first house. A goal I wondered if we would ever achieve – but achieve it we finally did!  Seems pretty standard, right? Well, let me add the rest of the story. Our new house was 250 miles north, in a town we had only visited once and for less than an hour. Now, it’s sounding a little crazy right? You wouldn’t be the only one to think we were mad, brave, and/or stupid. But move we did, and dragging our two small children with us. Truth be told, we were doing it all for them in the long term anyway – but there were some fantastic benefits for us along the way too!
But today’s article isn’t about being brave and making huge leaps of faith – but feel free to take away this: if you believe in your heart doing it is the right decision and it feels right even when others question it, then just do it! No matter how big the leap. You’ll regret it forever if you don’t!
Today’s article is actually about the small things. The small things that make a big difference or bring massive amounts of joy, happiness, or love. It’s these little things that can help you get through the big things – like say, a big move! 😃
Let me share with you. I made a potato and asparagus gratin for dinner the other night, with extra leftover for Hubby to take to work the next day. Instead of leaving the cooking dish on the side in the morning, he put the dish into soak. now, I bet you are thinking, so what? But that small gesture really melted my heart when I found the soapy warm water soaking off the baked on gratin remnants because he hadn’t just left it on the side to really weld on to the dish, he had (whether consciously or unconsciously) considered me as chief dishwasher. He had taken less than a minute of his day to make mine a little easier – without me asking. It meant so much to me, especially when most completed chores are never rewarded or even noticed.
And that got me thinking about all the other little things that have made our move easier, or made me feel welcome in a new town, or simply made me smile. Here are a few that came to mind:
  1. All the mums and dads who smiled, laughed, and spoke to me when I took the kids to soft play. No one does that where I came from, instead they sat in their own little groups ignoring everyone else. Not here. Not in the North. I appreciated the shared support.
  2. My son stood aside to let an old lady and her dogs come past on a narrow path, and you could see the look of shock ripple across her features, and she thanked him greatly. He replied cooly, ‘that’s ok’ and continued Minecrafting his way along. I was proud of my son and the good manners he showed to his elders, and I appreciated the old lady for acknowledging the kind gesture.
  3. To everyone who has seen me with the Juggernaut (read: massive pushchair) and has opened doors for me, stood aside, or picked up a toy tossed out by a grumpy 1 year old. You helped me, made my day a little easier, and put-paid to a mad hunt for a lost teddy and the tears that would have ensued.
When you look around you will see kindness, love, joy and happiness all around you, bestowed upon you by people you know and strangers alike. It is these little moments that can turn a bad day into a good one, or reassure you that you’ve made the right decision. The small things have great power, don’t let them slip by unnoticed and unappreciated.
What 3 small things have made you feel appreciated, happy, or loved today? Take 5 minutes to give them the recognition they deserve for the positive impact they have had on you and your day.

How to Start a Business and Not Lose Your Mind in the Process!

These days it’s quite frequent to find more and more people taking the leap to start their own business. Be it due to not finding another job elsewhere, or simply deciding you’ve had enough of working for someone else and would rather start something of your own, the truth is that often there’s a powerful personal reason for taking that huge leap.

It’s scary. It’s a lot of work, and it takes a great deal of planning and organizing. These aspects often go unnoticed by those looking from the outside. I speak from experience, because while I’ve seen a few friends starting their own businesses before, I never really thought about everything they had to go through to get there… until now…

I’ve been playing around with a business idea that came about some months ago, but it’s only now that I’ve really started to take it seriously enough to run with it. And let me tell you, it’s been a challenge!

While my business is still getting started, I feel like I’ve been through enough to point out some of the challenges of starting something up, just in case someone is toying with the idea of getting their own business going, or simply dead smack in the middle of it and going nuts because of it. Hang on, you’re not alone!

  • Make a business plan – yes, I know you´re pretty sure that you have a clear idea inside your brain of what you want to do and how to make it happen… but chances are there are details that you’re not taking into consideration. I thought I had it all figured out, but working on my business plan has helped me realize not only what I actually need to get my business up and running in terms of resources, but also get to know more about the industry I’m going to jump into, the possibilities, opportunities, the competition and the challenges I’m going to be facing. Also, a business plan helps you establish immediate and long term goals that are likely to be needed in case you’re looking for outside help for financing your project (more on this later).
  • Come up with a brand name – how are people going to take you and your business seriously if you’re not going to take yourself seriously first? Hire a designer if you need to, but find an image or logo that identifies you. Believe me, just having to think about what you want it to look like in order to explain it to a designer will help you a lot in terms of deciding what your business is all about. Once you have it created, trademark it. Own it, and a sense of pride and excitement will invade you! I found this (in appearance) small step helped me see my business as something tangible, real that you’re going to work on to make happen. It helped me to take myself seriously.
  • Consider setting up your own webpage – whether it’s a business set up physically or if it’s something online (for which obviously a webpage is a must!), it’s very important to bring your business to the people in this connected world we live in today. There’s plenty of easy webpage creators out there, so you no longer have to be a technical wizard! Just a few clicks, and you can have your own personalized webpage up and ready to get your products or services to those looking for it.
  • Know how much money you’re going to need to start up – yes, this gets covered when you make your business plan, but I wanted to expand on it. You can have the most solid, amazing idea, but if you don’t have the means to make it happen, then you’re stuck. ¿Do you have the money to get going? ¿Do you need to borrow money? ¿Is someone willing and ready to invest? If you borrow money, what’s the interest rate? ¿How long will you take to pay it back? These are just some of the questions that you should have the answers for. Whether you need plenty or not much, it’s important to know your situation financially, so that you can manage your resources accordingly.
  • How much time do you have to invest in your business? – It’s very, very important to know whether you’ll be doing this on the side while having another job, or whether you’re just going to be doing this fulltime. I won’t lie to you, it might be easier to start your business as a side project while you have another job with secure income flowing in. Buuuut, if you’re in a similar situation as mine, and you just don’t have much of a choice in the matter because you can’t find a job, it’s very important to plan and distribute your time accordingly, because it’s quite easy to get lost in a sea of procrastination (I’m looking at you, social media!).
  • Don’t-freak-out! – yes, it’s quite easy to feel overwhelmed, doubt your plan and even your ability to make this happen. If you need help, look for it. Find a friend, relative or mentor that knows about the industry and the type of business that you’re going to start, and ask questions. Find someone you trust that you can just vent to about your frustrations, and let it all out. Support is so important! It can feel as though you’re all alone in this enterprise, but trust me, you’re not. There’s plenty of people out there going through the same, or who went through the same as you when starting up. These are the type of people you might want to network with.
  • Stay the course – if you decide this is a business that you believe in, don’t allow the challenges that you’re going to face to deter you from your goal. It’s easy to find reasons to quit or why you’re going to fail, but since when has taking the easier road worked in terms of providing you with the lessons and experiences that shape your core? We truly find what we’re made of when we face those challenges and push through them. There might also be a few people that will make you think that you’re crazy for taking such a huge risk. Nay-sayers are always at hand! Learn to distinguish when a criticism is constructive and when it’s just jealousy. You’re very likely to find people who don’t have the guts to do what you’re doing, and they’re just a bit jealous of your bravery. Bless them, and keep going!
  • Learn to adapt – if something you originally thought would work best simply doesn’t when push comes to shove, don’t be afraid to discard it and find an alternative. It’s a very dynamic world that we live in today, and our ability to adapt can be the deciding factor that makes the biggest difference in whether we make it or not. Also, give yourself room to breathe. It’s easy to be stubborn!
  • Enjoy the process! – all of the challenges, the successes and failures, the milestones you reach (whether big or small)… all of that is what life’s all about. We’re in an adventure that we should enjoy. Stop, look around. Take a deep breath. Smile. Shrug it off. Push through. Pick yourself up and dust yourself off. Go for it again. Don’s stop. Our biggest joys come from seeing something we longed for (and probably worked for!) come true.

My business is still a work in progress, but I’m hoping that very soon I’ll be able to unleash it to the world. So stay tuned, and I’ll try and keep you updated in my progress!

¿Did something in this entry ring true to you? ¿Do you have anything more to add from your own experience? Sound off in the comments below! I’d love to hear from you. Your experience just might be the saving grace for me or someone reading this.

Why Your Business Needs Word-of-Mouth Advertising…and How to Get it

You’ve heard of word-of-mouth (WOM) advertising, right? And you’ve probably gotten the impression that it’s the most coveted form of marketing for businesses hoping to build visibility for themselves.

Well, your impression is correct. Not only does WOM advertising work more effectively than any other type, it’s the most cost-effective, often requiring little or no monetary investment (making it the highest ROI marketing strategy available).

Why is WOM so effective? Think about it: Every piece of marketing you see asks you to trust. Trust in the quality. Trust in the promises. Trust in the people. And yet, you have no social proof with which to qualify those claims.

On the other hand, when you get a personal recommendation from a friend, the trust is there. She wouldn’t make a stupid choice. And so, you take her word for it.

The empty parking lot story is also an example of WOM advertising. You might pass a restaurant that’s put out lots of marketing communications, but the parking lot is empty. There’s a restaurant across the street that you’ve never heard of, and the parking lot is packed. Where are you going to eat?

WOM advertising is all about social proof, and today’s consumers just love that. They’re too busy to shop around extensively, and brands have proven themselves too untrustworthy for consumers to take risks. And so, they rely on referrals from others…even if those others are strangers. They would rather trust a stranger than a faceless business.

How can you drum up Word-of-Mouth advertising for your brand and make the most of it? Here are a few quick tips:

  • Ask your best customers for testimonials and publish them on your website.
  • Offer rewards to clients who refer new customers.
  • Acknowledge those who recommend your brand (i.e. say ‘thank you’).
  • Share positive feedback on your social media pages.
  • Exceed expectations. Consumers aren’t accustomed to this. They’ll talk.

Now is the perfect time to start. Ask a few customers for testimonials and go from there. You’ll be amazed at how quickly the WOM ball gets rolling.

Establishing your Business Vernacular

You may not have had the opportunity to choose your native language; however, you can choose with whom you wish to communicate and adopt other languages that make communication with them possible.

Speaking on behalf of your business is no different. You have a language that you typically use to communicate. Your ideal customers have a language they use, too. When those two languages don’t ‘match,’ communication barriers arise—and those barriers can be just as significant as the rift that exists between Italian and English or Spanish and Swahili.

Speaking the same language as your ideal customers isn’t enough. You must also speak the same vernacular. If you’ve ever learnt a new language in anticipation of a trip or a move, and arrived only to discover that the vernacular spoken in that part of the country is different than what you’ve learnt…well, then you’re seen as an outsider. Not only do you have the ‘wrong accent,’ you are using words (and forms of words) the native speakers aren’t accustomed to. You might be accepted, but you’re still viewed as an outsider, or as someone who couldn’t possibly understand the culture.

The same thing happens if you use the wrong business vernacular with your target audience. They have grown accustomed to speaking in a certain way about their problems, and unless you can mirror that language, they’re going to have a hard time believing that you understand their pain and their need for a solution. You’re going to sound like an outsider.

So what is a business owner and brand-builder to do?

I have a few tips:

  • Immerse Yourself in the Industry Culture. There’s one sure-fire way to learn a language, and that’s to immerse yourself in the culture. Join social media groups and forums where your ideal customers are gathering. Attend the events they’re attending. Really listen to what they’re saying. You will not only get a better feel for the pain they’re experiencing, you will pick up the tone, phrasing and keywords that are central to their way of speaking.
  • Test your Message. You know what you’re trying to say, and it makes perfect sense to you; however, it may not be landing the way you think you’re delivering it. Assemble a test group and ask them to comment on your brand messages. Are they hearing what you’re saying? You can also run a poll to ask your target audience members how they perceive your marketing and other communications.
  • Take Note of How your Messages Land. What types of statements get the most positive engagement? And which ones are ignored or criticised? This might sound like a no-brainer, however, I see too many brand builders ignoring the reactions of their audiences. These reactions can tell us so much about how to proceed.
  • Hire a Brand Language Curator. In an ideal situation, you will be speaking to your younger self when communicating with your audience, so you’ll know exactly what to say and how to say it. However, there are situations in which you’re not the best candidate. In your brand-building journey, you may have encountered someone who is your uber-ideal customer—the picture of client perfection who wholeheartedly understands the problem you’re solving. Consider retaining this person to act as a brand ambassador.

There’s lots of talk about establishing a branded language for your business. Few experts talk about the necessity of using your ideal customers’ vernacular as a basis for that branded language. Speak and write in a way that proves you understand their struggles, and that you’ve put yourself wholly in their shoes. Otherwise, they’ll find someone who will.

2 Hidden Symptoms of Self-Doubt

Self-Love and Self-Worth are the flip sides of a coin, do you agree? The one fuels the other. Personal Power is the result according to the quality of self-love and self-worth.

Personal Power for me is synonymous with the personal freedom to be truly you giving you permission to show up bigger in the world and making a bigger impact in your life, business, relationships, etc.

For most people life doesn’t look that way and we often wonder – I did anyway – what is the secret? What am I doing or not doing? I found it is not so much of doing or not doing, as being. Our doing happens from our being.

There are a number of hidden symptoms of self-doubt that result in you either being the victim or the victor of your life determining your personal power and personal freedom.

Self-worth is made up of complex layers of frames of mind and parts that make up the whole and it is to work through these different layers and parts and heal them. As they are healed the whole becomes solid, aligned and congruent.

Self-doubt is an obvious symptom and it is the consequences of self-doubt that activate other hidden symptoms. Let’s take a closer look.

The first one that comes up is perfectionism and I bet you say, “Of course, I know that!” Sure, but you probably didn’t know that it is linked to the fear of failure, of making a mistake. Perfectionism is a set of vague or unspecified criteria that is unknown and can’t be measured and because of that it stops you from moving forward. If you had specific measurable criteria, then you could compare your output and make adjustments. Now that you don’t have anything to compare to, you don’t have clear evidence and you assume it is not right.

The irony is that it is only in putting something out there and learning from mistakes that we can achieve perfection. So perfection is not a destination, it is an ongoing process of continuous increments of improvements.

Perfectionism lets you wait until everything is in place before you take action. However whatever you are waiting for is weighing you down and slowing you down.

As you are reading this, memories of past projects are probably coming up for you. How much time and energy have you wasted in waiting and only to realise that it was totally unnecessary?

The thing is, there is no failure, there is only feedback. What if you could not fail?

What would that open up for you?

Procrastination goes hand in hand with perfectionism. Actually procrastination is a consequence of perfectionism. And again fear is the underlying factor. The fear of failure, but also the fear of success. More than failure or success, it is the consequence of failure that we fear.

However the consequences that we fear are assumptions. If you struggle with self-worth then this is your watertight exit plan. They feel legitimate and real in your body and you believe it as such. No wonder fear stands for False Evidence Appearing Real!

When you flip your assumptions into empowering beliefs you give fear the boot and change your life forever!

The Number One Antidote to Lack of Self-Worth

There are many symptoms that indicate the lack of self-worth and there are many causes that show up as symptoms! But let me not create confusion.

Talking about confusion, a major cause that contributes to the lack of self-worth is when we confuse our self-worth with our self-confidence.

Self-worth and self-confidence are two different concepts. This was a huge awareness for me. I absolutely love teaching this process when working with my clients.

Self-confidence refers to our doing and self-worth refers to our being. The important distinction is that self-confidence talks about the confidence of skills and competencies. Do you agree that there are things that you are good at and other things you are not? Does it bother you that you are not good at everything?

If so, how realistic is that?

For example I can do coaching extremely well, you can say I am an expert. If I look at my cooking skills, I can make great home-cooked meals, but I am not close to a gourmet chef. And I have no idea how to ski. Of course I can learn how to do this.

If I determine my self-worth in terms of what I can do, then thinking of coaching my self-worth would be sky-high but when I think of cooking, it would be quite low and skiing would drop it way below zero! What a roller coaster ride! Do you agree?

The same happens when you define your self-worth by the car you drive, your house, or your job title. Another false way to determine your self-worth is by other people’s opinions of you. All this is external to you and does not reflect who you really are.

When you measure your self-worth in terms of what is external to you, i.e. what you can do, what you have or other people’s opinions your self-worth is conditional and on a roller coaster ride, because life is in constant flux. Things change, people change, we change.

In Neuro-Semantics we separate our being from our doing and that allows you to accept yourself fully, imperfections and all as well as the cards life dealt you. It allows you to appreciate what you can do and what you have, as your doing. Most of all it allows you to stand in awe of the being you are – the unique expression of God, Higher Power, Spirit or what it is to you.

You don’t have to do anything to be a somebody, you were born a somebody!

What does this do for your sense of self? It gives you self-love, self-respect and unconditional self-worth. With your core being healthy and loving to yourself, you can face anything.

Imagine moving through life with this powerful way of being, how would that transform situations where you normally would have practiced self-contempt?

How would that skyrocket your personal power and what would that open up for you now that was impossible before?

Are you ready to finally Reset Your Destiny forever?

The common component between your success, love life, health and wealth

happy woman 1

The common component or denominator is you of course and specifically your relationship with your self. The quality of your relationship with yourself determines and mirrors the quality of every facet of your life.

So let’s look at the effect of your relationship with your self on these different facets of your life.

Self-belief, self-efficacy, self-trust, self-worth, self-confidence are all key ingredients to experience success. Self-doubt and self-contempt erode your sense of self and paralyse your capabilities to effectively lead, perform the tasks and make the decisions to propel your business forward. This means that you are driven by fear of failure and fear of losing control.

  • Do you feel in charge of your self and your business moving forward?
  • Do you trust your decisions?
  • Do you lead with unshakeable inner confidence?

  • Do you continuously doubt yourself, your skills, your decisions?
  • Do you compare yourself with others and feel inadequate?
  • Are you in permanent crisis management fearing failure, success or losing control?

What is important to know is that if you experience self-doubt and self-worth issues, you are not alone. Most entrepreneurs and especially women entrepreneurs struggle with this on some level. However, these issues can easily be resolved and I will show you how.

When your relationship with your self is that of unconditional self-love and self-worth, then you are the queen of your heart and you lead your self and your business from your heart with a strong spiritual connection and guidance.

Love Life

Who you are in your relationship as a partner and lover is a reflection of your relationship with yourself. This reflection is what your relationship looks like.

  • Do you feel like the diva in your relationship with your partner and family?
  • Do you feel loved, appreciated and important?
  • Are your expectations met and do you feel comfortable voicing them?

  • Do you feel like the doormat in your relationship with your partner and family?
  • Do you feel resentment towards your partner?
  • Do you feel jealous of your partner?

Do you think that:

  • Your needs are not important enough.
  • Your needs are last in the queue.
  • Your opinion is not asked or deemed important.
  • You are expected to serve and make sure that everybody’s life is sorted and running smoothly.
  • You don’t get appreciation or recognition for your efforts.

Your thoughts result in feelings and then a neuro-chemical cocktail of Noradrenalin, Dopamine and Serotonin is released in your brain and transmitted through your body. The ratio of these neuro-transmitters depends on the emotion you feel as a result of the thoughts you are having.

Now, if you think happy thoughts and you experience self-gratification, loads of Dopamine and Serotonin with less Noradrenalin are transmitted. This has a positive affect on your immune system and of course your health.

If you think unhappy thoughts and experience stress, anger, frustration, depression then loads of Noradrenalin and less or no Dopamine and Serotonin are transmitted. This has a negative effect on your immune system and compromises your health and can result in disease.

If for example you are overweight, then chances are that you eat to find the pleasure and gratification that you lack in your love life. Your brain will force you to do something in order to generate Dopamine and this is the root cause of addiction. When we lose connection we may try and fill that empty space with food, sugar, alcohol, drugs, sex, etc. This gives a surge of Dopamine but is only temporary relief.

Your relationship with your self is a direct reflection of your relationship with money. When you believe you are unworthy of abundance then you will experience and operate from the fear of scarcity.

I have personally experienced all the above in my life and it is only when I realized and integrated that I am deeply loved by the Divine and that loving myself is a Spiritual practice that every facet of my life changed. And it is bliss!

And that is what I want for every body and it is my mission to help people, especially women to experience this as well.
